These records contain a variety of documents not appropriately filed in any other series. The bulk of the records is "yeas and nays," or roll call votes, on measures brought before the Senate. Also included are messages from the House of Representatives, lists of committees, miscellaneous documents printed for Senate use, motions and orders, and appointments and resignations. The yeas and nays are the only category of records that are included consistently since 1789.
